I had the pleasure of working closely with Philipp at Staffbase over the past 4–5 years on a wide range of initiatives, from shaping the Staffbase website to delivering the VOICES event website.

Philipp was the person who onboarded me to our web development processes during my very first web project at Staffbase, and from then on he became my go-to expert for anything web-related. He is incredibly knowledgeable, process-driven, and always willing to help. If there was a question about our web setup, Philipp either had the answer or knew exactly how to find it.

What I appreciated most was collaborating with him on complex design and technical challenges. Our in-depth discussions always led to thoughtful, practical solutions that balanced user experience with technical excellence.

I had the pleasure of working with Philipp at Staffbase, and he's one of the most capable web developers I've come across. I have worked with Philipp Storl for over eight years, and our story has an unusual start: I was Staffbase's external implementation partner before Philipp joined in 2018. I watched him take over in-house what had been my role and instead of that ending our collaboration, it became the beginning of one of the most rewarding partnerships my agency has had.

Over those years, krawall & wunder built and maintained several of Staffbase’s web properties like the blog, the careers site, and the Niners "Player of the Game" site, with Philipp as our primary technical counterpart throughout. It never felt like a client–vendor relationship. We made decisions together: we jointly kicked off the Gatsby-to-Astro migration in a shared planning session, agreed dependency policies as a team, and reviewed each other’s pull requests. Philipp regularly asked us to review his own changes, which tells you a lot about how he works.

He's also exactly the counterpart you want when things get tricky. When our team was accidentally removed from the Staffbase GitHub organization, he caught it and got it resolved immediately, protecting a partnership that wasn't even his to defend. Clear briefs, well-documented handovers, and direct communication were simply the norm.

Through rebrands, platform migrations, and years of organizational change, Philipp stayed the constant and the work was always renewed on merit, never inertia. Any team would be lucky to have him.

As a Co-Founder of Staffbase, I had the privilege of watching Philipp's journey unfold over nearly eight years. Being part of a company's evolution from an early-stage startup to a global scale-up is a unique experience, and Philipp was there for it all—navigating the fast-paced growth and organizational changes firsthand.

While we didn’t work together directly in the day-to-day business, it was great to see him grow professionally alongside the company. Throughout his time, he was a reliable teammate who contributed positively to our culture and aligned well with our values. I've had the chance to work closely with Philipp since joining the web team at Staffbase. From the beginning, he made it really easy for me to get up to speed. He explains things clearly, doesn't overcomplicate anything, and has a very structured way of thinking that makes working together easy.

What I appreciated most was his ability to think beyond the task in front of him. Whenever we ran into design or implementation questions, he was never focused on the quickest fix. Instead, he'd look at the bigger picture and ask how we could solve the problem in a way that would improve the system as a whole. As a designer, I learned a lot from that way of thinking.

Philipp and I worked alongside over several years at Staffbase, where he served as a Principal Web Developer and one of the longest-tenured members of the team. I worked with him on many projects, and what always struck me was how much broader his understanding was than his job title suggested. He knows web development deeply, but he also understands marketing, design, and the business as a whole. That combination made him a very effective counterpart for someone on the content side.

What I appreciated most was his approach to quality. Philipp always wants to understand what a stakeholder is actually trying to achieve bringing his experience and judgment to that alongside best practices. When I raised tickets, those requests were taken seriously, thought through, and resolved properly. He made us content editors more capable and more independent, not more dependent on the web team.

The same clarity showed up in how he communicated. Technical issues were never just "it’s broken." He explained what caused it, what the scope was, and what the fix involved. That meant I actually learned something each time, rather than just waiting for a problem to disappear. He also built and maintained documentation and processes that let the content team work autonomously in Storyblok.

The question of who owns the better BVB coffee mug remains unresolved. But what is very much resolved is that Philipp Storl is one of the most thoughtful, principled, engaged, and nice colleagues I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

First in close delivery loops where I was designing pages and he was bringing them to life in code, and later in brand governance work where he became a trusted quality gate for how Staffbase showed up across web properties. Two very different phases, but the same Philipp: reliable, precise, and genuinely invested in getting things right.

What stood out most was how faithfully he translated design intent into working code, down to font weights, color consistency, and layout details that most developers would wave through. He never deflected design questions; he engaged with them. That made him a truly valuable team player and someone you could actually think out loud with.

As a manager, I always felt comfortable going to Philipp with any issues that I may have been going through and know that I could find the support, understanding and guidance that I would require to tackle whatever obstacles I may encounter head on. I will always be appreciative for this as it has had a massive impact in the way I approach my work and challenges that get thrown my way.
